Why is it important to do mental and emotional transformation work?
We all carry a suitcase full of repressed, rejected feelings, of misunderstood emotions and desires, a psychological baggage that embarrasses us and isolates us from the rest of the world. In psychology, and also in alchemy, it is called "the shadow." As much as we try to ignore our shadow, living as if it weren't weighing us, it is hidden in our unconscious and from there it maintains its strength and power, and manages to interfere every time we try to overcome our fears and prejudices to achieve a change, a transformation.
We all have a shadow, because we all have to make the effort to adapt and survive in a more or less demanding and complicated society, which forces us to make commitments, to create defenses and to give up certain dreams and beliefs, to adapt to reality, sometimes hard and excessively routine.
"The meeting of two people is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both transform."
Carl G. Jung
